I'm not the maternal type myself - Chez HbyH consists of me, my husband and two dogs. So I needed a bit of help in the planning stage. After posting a query on my facebook page I got lots of helpful tips - which basically can be summed up as follows - 'pockets', 'pockets' and 'more pockets'!
Jo was quite flexible in what she wanted, but did give me some pointers on her favourite choice of colours - she had a brown and green influenced colour scheme at her wedding. Eventually we settled on Kitty Yoshida's Brooklyn Heights fabric.
With a few more additions (I never seem to be able to resist adding a touch of purple), including the fab ribbon found at my local haberdashery, I had all my ingredients ready. Now for the sewing bit....
It's getting there - but boy, did that front raised pocket give me some trouble! I'm still not happy it's quite square enough.
The inside is purple (there I go again!) with lots more pockets and the ribbon has a trigger clasp on the end so Jo can always find her keys quickly.Just the strap to finish and I can put the whole thing together, but you'll have to wait for next weeks Handmade Monday to see the finished thing. I still have dogs to walk, dinner to cook and my sewing mess to tidy up! Hopefully there will be enough sunshine for me to get some pictures of the finished item before Jo heads off one her maternity leave next week.
Don't sit in the chair they sat in, can be dangerous and carry a health warning or in this case a baby warning, like you not maternal more dogternal. The changing bag looks very good and am sure will be well received.
ReplyDeleteAgree about the chair! The bag looks brill, really looking forward to seeing it finished next week :)

I would back up the message of lots of pockets. It seems a great idea to make a change bag - there must be quite a demand out there as they do get an awful lot of use! Really looking forward to seeing it finished. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteBet your bag looks great when finished.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very thoughtful gift. Good luck with finishing it in time- it's a pain that real life has to get in the way of crafting!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely. The fabric is very pretty. Looking forward to see the finished thing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous, the fabric is gorgeous! How I wish I'd known about your lovely bags when pregnant and then when Daisy was small.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea to make a baby changing mat. So well made as usual.
ReplyDeleteThe bag is looking great. The pocket does look challenging, but it's a good touch. Babies always seem to come along in batches...I don't really have any idea how that happens!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea, and the pockets will be an absolute godsend so am sure your friend will be really happy you persevered with the raised one :-)
ReplyDeleteFabulous bag - very clever!
ReplyDeleteGreat bag, I know what you mean about a baby boom there seems to be something in the water lately around here too! Good to see you're expanding into this side of bags too. x
ReplyDeleteYour baby-changing bag is lovely and the pockets are such a great idea. Hope you have a good week.
