My first project was a one of a two part custom order for this lovely pink bucket bag. I love the contrast between the pink heavyweight fabric and the cotton print. I still have one to finish before it can be posted to it's new owners (mother and teenage daughter - this one is for the daughter).
A blog about handmade handbags and a love of fabric - along with a few other bits and pieces along the way.

More custom handmade handbags, and improving my photography.
After more than a week off the day job it came as a bit of a shock to go back to work this week. So bag making has had to take a bit of a back seat. But I've still managed to get a few things made for this weeks handmade Monday. Mostly, i've been trying to improve my photography and have started pulling together a Pinterest page to showcase some of my favourite items for sale.

I managed to finish a bundle of these purses. My photographs were pretty poor to start with. But after chasing the sunshine around the house and using an extra lamp or two I finally got some half decent photographs. There's still room for improvement, but they are definitely getting better. Now i just need to work out the layout thing in blogger to be able to get several pictures in a row!

I think your photographs are really good Helen, I really need to work on mine, I also have trouble finding enough light. Great bag and super purses. :)
ReplyDeleteYour purses are so sweet. The bucket bag looks lovely, I really like the combination of fabrics you've used.
ReplyDeleteYour photos look great, everythings shown off really well.
Have a lovely weekend.

Lovely bucket bag and the purses look fab. The photos look great, too x
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous bag. I like how the purses are piled on top of each other. I think your photography is looking good and the bags are shown off to good effect
ReplyDeletebeautiful purses and i love your pink bag!
ReplyDeletei been trying to fathom the ins and outs of product photography too... yours look great, i especially like the one of all the purses lined up together, they look so colourful and appealing :) x
I think your photography is good and shows your purses off really well. I have three pictures in a row on my post this week and I used Pic-Monkey. It's very easy and has plenty of options.
ReplyDeleteThanks fiddly fingers -I'll take a look at picmonkey. I think I'm just a bit too impatient to sit and tweak my photos - I snap them and want to post them instantly! Doh!!
DeleteI love the way your piled your purses up on top of each other. They look as if they are about to topple over ;). Seems to me like you managed to get a lot done despite what you say!!
ReplyDeleteThe photography is great! I've been reading "The Crafters Guide to Taking Great Photographs" which has some great tips. I make and sell really small items which I find super challenging to photograph.
ReplyDeleteIt's all trial and error!
The book sounds like a good tip thanks.
DeleteYour pictures are looking good but I know what you mean about chasing the natural light but with winter fast approaching I'm thinking of making a light box for those dull days.

ps... I'm really pleased with the purple pyramid purse :)
I've had a bit of a splurge and just bought a white tent type thing. £18 on eBay. I may post about it on HM if it arrives in time.
DeleteVery pretty coloured bag!
ReplyDeleteLove the bag and the purses-a lovely selection of fabric!I see a lot of people are working on photography at the moment but I have to say your photos here are great.
ReplyDeleteHi Helen, I think you are missing a trick because when I click your own handbags on your pinterest page they don't take me to your folksy site. People might want to buy then but not be able to see how to do so. x
ReplyDeleteI think that's because most of them are either sold or are commissions so aren't on folksy. I'll try and take a look at the weekend though. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteOops, no sorry. You're right - most of them are on Folksy! Must rectify at the weekend.
DeleteI love the lining in the bag, it really lifts the bag... although the accent fabric is fabulous. The purses are superb... what a fantastic collection.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are great, I like how you have put all the purses in a pile. Great fabric too, very colourful.
ReplyDeleteI love your bag and little purses. I've been challenged to make a similarly shaped bag using fabric and crochet and am a bit apprehensive but the way you've photographed the bag here gives me more of an idea of how to structure things.
ReplyDeleteGlad they help Bev. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
DeleteI agree I think the photos look good. I can relate to chasing the sun around the house.....especially now the summer has come to an end, I have had to find a new photo corner!! :-)
ReplyDeletePhotography can be quite difficult but I think your photos came out great.
ReplyDeleteLove the bag and purses, so good when you see then all finished
ReplyDeleteHi Helen, I just wanted to let you know that I have nominated you for the beautiful blogger award as I love your gorgeous work
ReplyDeleteI really like the bags and purses you make, maybe I will try some of them myself someday
ReplyDeleteI like your photo of the purse tower...a very clever way to showcase them!
